TOTAL QUALITY MANAGEMENT

Quality is the degree of excellence of a product or service that fulfils or exceeds customer satisfaction. TQM philosophy about managing well, for continuous quality improvement with a permanent focus on customer.TQM leads to maximum satisfaction of the customer.

According to Khurram Hashmi (2007), Total Quality can be defined as a management philosophy that seeks to integrate all organizational functions such as marketing, finance, engineering, customer services etc. focus on meeting customer needs and organizational objectives

TQM can be defined as a corporate culture characterized by increased customer satisfaction continuous improvements all employees firms actively participate

 

 

TQM means…….

Total = made up whole.

Quality = degree of excellence of products or services 

Management= art of planning, organization, controlling

 

History of TQM

     This concept was developed by US industries in 1920s W. Edward

     During 1930s Walter A Shewhart developed the statistical analysis and control of quality.

     Originally it developed Japan to reconstruct the Japan’s economy post world war II in 1950s.

     Japanese welcomed the inputs of Americans.

     Joseph M Juran and W Edwards Deming to rebuild economic structure.

In early 1980s US industrial managers visited Japan and mid 1980s the concept of TQM started spreading.

How TQM applied in school settings

1.  Students are the workers and the products. The difference between success and failure of the school depends on the quality of their work.

2.   Teachers are the first level managers. Therefore the teacher will be leader of the class

3.  Administrators are upper level management. The productivity of any school depends mostly on the teachers

4.   Board of Education is the board of directors thus responsible directly to the clients and board members. board members overseers of the administration

 

 

 

 

 

Scope of TQM

1.  Vision of an institution :

   Vision of the institution provides them proper direction to meet their future challenges.

   TQM concerned vision has a significant role to play in the quality enhancement of an educational system 

2.  School administration and management

    Administration is the policy formulation process and management is the implementation of the policies.

   There should be a planning and policy making committee who will take care of formulating and implementing the policies

3. Curriculum:

    curriculum plays an important role for quality education

As the curriculum is determined by the nation state, there should be a national and state level monitoring committee to ensure that the curriculum is framed according to the demands and tastes of the learner

4. Teaching learning process:

    Effective implementation of a curriculum is possible through effective transaction.

   It is possible through quality enabled teaching learning process.

Teaching learning process must be learner centre; process oriented and socially linked one

5.  Students assessment:

    We have served the curriculum effectively, the students assessment is very crucial .

   TQM always focuses on result oriented approach

The assessment should be continues and comprehensive

6. Students services:

   As per TQM students are the customer of an educational institution. Customer satisfaction is to be ensure.

   Provide maximum services to student communities

   These facilities may include guidance and counseling , sports etc..

7. School infrastructure:

    It is the foundation of all activities.

   It includes construction and maintained  of buildings, utilization of infrastructure 

   Provide good facilities like library, laboratory, hostel ,
